We will have to agree to disagree on the idea that "No one believes that renewable energy will solve all problems nor get humanity out of the predicament that we are in." There are, unfortunately, very many people that do indeed believe in this prospect. In fact, the vast majority of people aren't even aware of our conundrum/predicament so hold on to the notion that things will continue as is (or better) as we smoothly shift from hydrocarbons to a world where everything is 'electrified'--demonstrating a complete lack of awareness of the complexities and, frankly, impossibility of the task.

And as far as all those things that need to be 'managed' for a 'smooth transition', I am doubtful in the extreme that our species can do this given the 12,000 years of failed experiments in complex societies. The 'transition' is likely to be anything but smooth and extinction for our species is a distinct possibility.

Only time will tell how this all plays out...
