Today’s Contemplation: Collapse Cometh CIV
Thou Shall Not Disturb the ‘Renewables’ Force
A very brief Contemplation that shares my comment on The Honest Sorcerer’s latest post that highlights the coming energy cliff we seem to have left behind only haven’t realised it yet…
Great summary, as always.
It’s amazing to me that well-informed people who you would think should know better continue to deny/bargain with the realities you discuss.
It doesn’t matter that ‘renewable’ energy is additive to our energy matrix and is not replacing anything. It doesn’t matter that there exists mineral limits to what can be accomplished in way of adopting widespread ‘renewable’ technologies. It doesn’t matter that ‘renewable’ technologies cannot adequately power the industrial processes necessary for building, maintaining, and distributing them thus making them reliant upon fossil fuels in perpetuity. It doesn’t matter that the production and eventual reclamation/disposal of ‘renewables’ is as ecologically destructive as fossil fuels. It doesn’t matter than many if not most of the promises surrounding what ‘renewable’ energy can accomplish depend very much upon as-yet-to-be-hatched technologies.
None of this matters to the all-important narrative that ‘renewables’ can and will replace fossil fuels allowing us to live happily ever after.
In fact, I’m beginning to see an increasing pushback by supporters of non-renewable renewable energy-harvesting technologies towards the notion that the limits and impediments to replacing fossil fuels with ‘clean’ energy are little more than a concerted conspiracy by the ‘right wing’ and ‘Big Oil’.
One must not question or critique the ‘renewables’ narrative. One must confirm and/or conform to the ‘renewables’ narrative. One is a ‘right wing’, ‘Big Oil’ shill or ‘climate denier’ if a single challenging thought to the ‘renewables’ narrative enters one’s mind or somehow slips into the conversation.
Thou shalt not disturb the ‘renewables’ force…
If you’ve made it to the end of this contemplation and have got something out of my writing, please consider ordering the trilogy of my ‘fictional’ novel series, Olduvai (PDF files; only $9.99 Canadian), via my website — the ‘profits’ of which help me to keep my internet presence alive and first book available in print (and is available via various online retailers). Encouraging others to read my work is also much appreciated.
