Indeed, our leveraging of a one-time cache of fossil energy has allowed us to create wonderful magic (i.e., technologies) and weave self-congratulatory narratives about our ingenuity, brilliance, and how much better and more enlightened we are than our predecessors (the epitome of physical and social evolution, no less). I sometimes wonder what stories will arise in the future about this planet, its people, and the past--shoud any humans get to the other side of the bottleneck we have created and have the leisure time to ponder such things.
