I don’t disagree that anything is possible. But given the extent of our overshoot, the loss of carrying capacity that portends, and the dramatic negative impacts humanity has had on the integrity of the biosphere, the probability of us getting there is pretty close to zero — especially on our own accord without Nature doing it to/for us. And this, of course, completely ignores the almost 500 nuclear reactors scattered around the planet that once left unmanaged because of our inability to find the energy/resources to do so could leave the planet completely uninhabitable for many species but most certainly homo sapiens.
