I believe our conundrum was argued most succinctly by the late Dr. Albert Bartlett in a must-see presentation entitled Exponential Growth Arithmetic, Population and Energy (https://youtu.be/kZA9Hnp3aV4) : “The greatest shortcoming of the human race is our inability to understand the exponential function.”

Until and unless we reject the growth agendas (population and economic) being foisted upon us by the sociopaths at the top of our power/wealth structures (especially in so-called 'advanced' economies where they leverage everything to spin the yarn that growth only has beneficial aspects as any negative ones can be countered through our ingenuity and technological prowess), we are well and truly fubar.

Given our pre/historical tendencies to date, I'm betting on Nature having to right the ship because we appear completely incapable.
